3 Mothers, 3 Generations PLUS Bo Bunny CHA Sneak Peek

Hello Blog Friends
Today I have a heritage layout linking three generations of mothers in my family, all of them pictured with their babies.  I'm quite happy with how this turned out.  I love how each one of us has that same look on her face, all of us gazing adoringly upon our baby daughters:
The first photo (top) is my mother holding yours truly (me!) 'way 'way back, long time ago in Montreal - back when men wore fedoras and women wore shirtwaist dresses and peplum jackets.
Second photo (centre R) shows me as a new mother with my daughter in 1979.  Third photo (bottom L) shows that same beautiful daughter of mine with her new baby this autumn.
I thought this quotation summed it all up" "Flowers have the sun, babies have their mothers."
I used the silken, soft-hued Pion papers here (Studio of Memories collection) and added a glimmer-misted doily, some Glitz What-nots, and some Webster's Pages trims. The blue flower and the mirrored bird-cage are from Prima:

This layout was a gift to my daughter at Christmas. Even though my daughter never got to meet her grandmother, I believe that connection can be made through looking at the heritage photos in our possession.
Shining a light on the generations was my whole motivation for scrapbooking in the first place. I am the "keeper of the story" in our family.  These heritage layouts are important to me to help keep those generational links alive for the future.

Marseille 2h.: Let's Get Shabby Challenge 25

Here is the challenge photo at Let's Get Shabby:
We were limited to using two elements from: lace. chipboard, fabric, and book/music page. (Quite difficult, because I often use all four out of habit!) I used fabric and chipboard.

Inspiration Photo for the challenge
I thought of a place setting, and the cutlery and the numbers on the plate made me think of train travel, club cars, and good living.  If only I had a picture of me eating a meal on the Orient Express, it would have been perfect!

Marseille 2h.: using fabric and chipboard
I settled on two pictures of me and my husband in Marseille.  While there, 2 o'clock became our designated hour to have lunch.  By 2 o'clock, it was time to seek shelter from the fierce sun.  We would sit at one of the charming cafes under an awning or umbrella and order a glass of rose wine, followed by a leisurely lunch.

To emphasize my French theme, I chose papers from the Parisian Anthology, and inked them a little with a steel gray ink. I edge punched some blue cardstock and tucked it in behind to incorporate the blue colour from the napkin.
1. FABRIC
To represent the vertical placement of the knife and fork, I ran long strips of Webster's bloomers to frame the photos:
2. CHIPBOARD
I used the numeral 2 to designate the hour (2 heures). The chipboard is covered thickly in white and black Enamel Accents to give it the look of a French address plaque.
The butterflies and floral wreath are also chipboard, and I made the letter packet by covering chipboard pieces with stickers from Tim Holtz, and tying it with string.
This challenge really appealed to me and yet stumped me at the same time: it definitely stretched my creative brain.  It was fun to scrap these photos and remember that wonderful week in Marseille just two years ago. There's still time to enter this challenge - it ends July 20. Here's the link:  Let's Get Shabby Challenge 25.
Thanks so much for stopping by.  A votre sante, and have a wonderful day!

Once Upon a Tricycle

Over at Let's Get Shabby, the current challenge is to create a project based on a photo or memory from your own childhood.  Instead of doing a layout, I chose to alter a wooden photo frame.

This is a unique challenge.  I had to ask myself how much of my personal childhood self am I willing to share with the world?  Most scrappers are very happy to scrap their children's photos - that part is easy! But when it comes to scrapping your own childhood/ baby photos, it becomes a little more self-revealing.
Vintage elements galore in this photograph, ca. 1953.
This is me at age 3, riding my brand new tricycle.  I love this photo because of all the vintage elements - everything from the furniture to the pattern in the carpet and the old-style window coverings just shouts out 1950's.  The other reason I love it - because it also shows my beloved grandfather watching me tool around his living room on my trike.

The photo frame was painted with acrylics and then covered with the Prima paper.  I paper-punched a border and added some lovely white lace to give a soft edge around the photo.  I detail cut the bunny family and fairies from Graphic 45 paper.
Originally, I had planned to give this frame to my daughter when her first child is born in July.  But I like it so much with this photograph, I'll just have to make another one! There is a fantastic tutorial for photo frames on Robin Shakoor's blog- go HERE.

This was a challenge just tailor-made for me - since I have given myself the task this year of sorting through the family photo box.  My progress is somewhat slow, but I don't mind that.  It's a process.  Somehow, the photos and the scrapbooking go together to tell a story.  While it's partly a trip down memory lane, I find that there's also a new story emerging as I deal with the photos in the box.  That was really was what got me started on this blog in the first place.

Thanks for stopping by - have a wonderful day!
